The Master’s Program (S2) in Animal Science is one of the study programs in the Department of Animal Science, Faculty of Animal and Agricultural Sciences, Diponegoro University, which was established in 1999. The basis for the establishment of this study program is the Decree of the Directorate General of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia regarding the establishment of the Diponegoro University Master of Animal Science (S2) Program (Decree No. 179/DIKTI/Kep/1999 dated April 26, 1999). Initially, the Master’s Program in Animal Science was managed by the Diponegoro University Postgraduate Program, which was located at the Undip Campus on Jl. Imam Bardjo SH, Pleburan, Semarang.
Since its establishment, the Master’s Program in Animal Science has been expected to become a national-level master’s program (S2) and a bench mark in the development of science and technology and highly competent human resources with expertise in the field of tropical-based indigenous livestock. In 2011, the Rector of Diponegoro University issued a regulation on the administrative and academic management of monodisciplinary postgraduate study programs through Rector’s Decree No. 609/SK/UN7/2011 dated November 1, 2011. Following up on the rector’s regulation, the management of the Master’s Program in Animal Science was subsequently handed over to the Faculty of Animal Science, Diponegoro University, located at the Undip Campus, Jalan Prof. Soedarto, SH Tembalang, Semarang. In 2012, the Faculty of Animal Science was renamed the Faculty of Animal and Agricultural Sciences based on Rector’s Decree No. 225/SK/UN7/2012. The change in the faculty’s name generally did not affect the management or status of the Master’s Program in Animal Science. However, there was an adjustment to the vision of the Master’s Program in Animal Science in line with the vision of the Department of Animal Science, Faculty of Animal and Agricultural Sciences, Diponegoro University.
Since 2024, the Master’s Program in Animal Science has been renamed the Master of Animal Science Study Program.
